What is Bill of Lading?
What is Bill of Lading?
The Bill of Lading is issued by the carrier when your goods are loaded, and it does three jobs at once: it receipts the cargo, evidences the transport contract, and β for an original bill β acts as the document of title, meaning whoever holds it can claim the goods. Your forwarder will ask whether you want an original set couriered, a telex release, or a seawaybill; the choice decides how the consignee collects the cargo at destination. Check that the shipper, consignee, quantities and container numbers match your commercial invoice before anything sails.
