What is Import duty & VAT?

Import VAT is charged on the customs value of your goods plus freight, insurance and duty when they enter your country, at your local standard rate. Unlike duty it is generally reclaimable if your business is VAT-registered — which is why landed-cost maths must keep duty and VAT in separate columns. Confirm your VAT registration and deferment options before the first shipment; paying 20% you could have deferred is an expensive paperwork gap.
